About the speaker: Mr Rodríguez Zapatero is a politician and the former Prime Minister of Spain. During his administration (2004-2011) he carried out a number of social reforms, including the legalization of same-sex marriage and the criminalization of domestic violence. On the international level, he performed an intense activity marked by the withdrawal of Spanish troops from the Iraq war, the diplomatic tensions with the George W. Bush administration, and the creation of the Alliance of Civilizations. Today, Mr Rodriguez Zapatero is involved in a number of international projects and acts as an international mediator between the government and the opposition in Venezuela. 

About the event: Mr Rodríguez Zapatero gave a lecture on the 'Post-Brexit Europe and the Future of Globalization'. He analyzed the achievements that the EU has accomplished over the past few decades, including the consolidation of democracy and peace, the consolidation of economic growth, and the improvement in the living standards. Moreover, Mr Zapatero also addressed the difficulties that the UK will encounter after Brexit to defend its interests from outside the Community institutions, and preserve its influence in the international order. He concluded his lecture by encouraging Brits to reconsider their options and find new ways to solve the problems of globalization and make the most of its numerous opportunities. His inspiring remarks and optimistic views were received with a standing ovation from the audience.
